Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

HCS SB 521 -- WORKERS' COMPENSATION SAFETY PROGRAMS

SPONSOR: Mathewson (Luetkenhaus)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Insurance by a vote of 12 to 0.

This substitute clarifies that insurance carriers who provide
safety engineering services to their clients must file periodic
reports to the Division of Workers' Compensation regarding the
services provided.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that current law requires too much
paperwork by the insurance carrier. The Division of Workers'
Compensation currently demands reports every time an insurer
talks to a client about making the workplace safer. The bill
should cut down on some of that paperwork.

Testifying for the bill were Senator Mathewson; and Alliance of
American Insurers.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
